If you’re interested in beautiful coastal scenery, Cape Schanck is a place well worth visiting. It is located at the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula between Flinders and St Andrews Beach.

There are several scenic walks there, including ‘The Cape walking track’. This short walk starts at the kiosk and follows a path that leads to the wooden staircase and boardwalk which takes you down to the beach and rock platform. There are several lookouts along the way with spectacular views of geological formations including Pulpit Rock and the Devils Desk, which were created over millions of years.

Care must be taken on the rock platform as large unexpected waves may wash across the rocks.

Allow about 20 minutes to walk down to the beach and a little more for the return trip up the stairs. If you’re into fitness training, these steps would be a perfect place to get your heart rate up. The level wooden staircase would be a much safer option than the 1000 steps at the base of Mt Dandenong.

There is a $4.50 fee for the car park but you can access a few other walks from there as well.
